Rosie was hatched as an eggs-periment at Flagg Nursery School & after 12 hours of being stuck in her shell during hatching she was helped out . She survived overnight but the other chicks pecked her when she was transfered to the brooding area and she struggled because her toes appeared to be deformed. We decided to bring her home to give her a chance and within 5 days her toes took shape & she's been on fine form since.
She's got a real winning attitude & we're looking forward to competing Rosie at the International Hen Races in Bonsall on 1st August 2009. This is a classic race for chickens held in the Peak District.
She's a real character, running rings around the more docile fluffy-bottomed Orpingtons & she's quick to steal anything and everything from them. Her ability to fly everywhere & perch has rubbed off onto the usual land-based Orpingtons and she's influenced a generation!
If you'd like to support a farming charity to celebrate Rosie's big day it's a fun way to make money for the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institute that helps those who work, or have worked in farming. It's a really worthwhile charity that supports people from all walks of life.
