My story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page! I am very excited to be running the London Marathon for the Countryside Alliance, not least because it is my first marathon and is providing a challenging but motivating goal, but also because I'll be raising money for an organization that promotes country sports and rural life in Britain. The Countryside Alliance is composed of three smaller organizations, The Countryside Business Group, the British Field Sports Society, and the Countryside Movement, and as a unified body represents over 100,000 members in its campaigns in Parliament and with the media. Having been fortunate enough to enjoy shooting, fishing, and riding in the British countryside, I strongly support the CA's work and am alarmed at the potential legislation it combats on a regular basis. The Alliance was created in response to the 1997 Labour Government's plan to put a ban on hunting with dogs, and today also runs campaigns for the protection and preservation of game-rearing activities, driven shooting, rural wildlife management, and educational outreach. In one example of the type of prosecution the CA works against, its cites a hunt that in 2010 received 47 visits from animal rights activitists armed with video cameras aiming to take legal action. If you benefit from sporting in the British countryside, please consider making a donation to the Countryside Alliance through my page to protect the activities you love!

Many children and young people know little about the countryside and rural way of life. Its programme of educational initiatives will introduce them, and their teachers, to the beauty, importance and diversity of our rural heritage, inspiring them to become passionate about its future and protect it for future generations.
