Two of us decided to get to Cape Town the hard way this winter - by Land Cruiser rather than Boeing 747. We will be driving for 6000 miles, taking three ferries and traversing twelve countries including two dictatorships and one in the grip of civil war in order to get there.
We tell ourselves that it will be fun, despite the dust, the Ethiopian food, the punctures, the bandits and the forecasted heavy rains which will turn every road to glue. But that's what makes Africa addictive!
Just to add a serious touch to the expedition, and to give me another motivation (other than saving a plane ticket!) I decided to raise money for a cause that is close to my heart - caring for people with leukaemia and other lymphatic cancers. Leukaemia Care does just this in providing help and support to both patients and those who care for them. It can make the difference between just surviving, and beginning to cope. So please support them!
