Update:  Bert and I made it over the finish line!!  A big thankyou to all who generously donated.... the added pressure kept me going!  Unfortunately due to injury/illness Claire and Carlene, the other amigos didn't attempt the challenge but both were a great support crew at 6am preparing by carb loaded breakfast - thanks amigos!

In a moment of madness I agreed to the challenge of attempting the Etape Caledonia 81 mile cycle race in beautiful hilly Perthshire on 15th May 2011 to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.  I will be joined by my two friends Claire Watt and Carlene Sloan - the 3 amigos!

Yes... that's right....81 miles!  As many of you will know I would not class myself as a 'cyclist' and therefore in the coming months Bert (my bike) and I will be undertaking some rather painful training - I will keep you all updated on our progress!

UPDATE: 09/05/11  Less than 1 week to go before the big day!

Unfortunately the 3 amigos are down to 2 as Carlene has suffered an injured, however, she will be cheering us on and promised to be up at 6am to make our breakfast!  We have our starting position 3480 and a start time of 7.19am! 

Training has been more 'enjoyable' due to the lovely sunny weather and of course the beautiful scottish countryside (see some of the pictures).  I still have some way to go before I would declare myself an elite cyclist but Bert and I will give the 81 mile challenge all we have and hopefully will enjoy the ride!
