Trailwalker 2013 · 27 July 2013 to 28 July 2013 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Having always been a keen adventurer, scaling mountains, hiking/trekking/walking around the world, embedding nature into my everyday life, I have decided to pursue a challenge that involves my passion i.e. hiking except on a much tougher scale! I started hiking/trekking since a very young age and gradually progressing to accomplish walkathons of 36km, Everest base camp etc., throughout my adult life.
Like this wasn’t enough, so I've signed up to take part in the 2013 Oxfam Trailwalker 27 - 28 July.
Trailwalker:
It was originally started by the Queen's Gurkha Signals Regiment in Hong Kong over 30 years ago as a training exercise to test soldiers' stamina and teamwork skills. It has since grown into one of the world's leading team endurance challenges.
In 2002 Trailwalker UK was opened to public via partnership with Oxfam and has since grown into a major fundraising event for Oxfam and the Gurkha Welfare Trust.
So I have now chosen to take on the daunting 100km challenge to be completed in 30hrs across the South Downs with a total ascent of 2500m. The walking distance equivalent to almost 2.5 marathons, lack of sleep, walking through the nights, this will most certainly test my endurance levels, my grit and determination.
Despite it all, I know that this will truly be for a worthwhile cause as I will be raising money for Oxfam & Gurkha Welfare Trust.
Your money will help:
- to provide clean water and sanitation during emergencies, water, feeding packs, soap, blankets and people on the ground
- fund long-term projects, in areas such as health or education, that help people work their way out of poverty (building classrooms, training teachers or buying books...)
- provide financial and medical aid to the most destitute Gurkhas, and to fund community aid projects in Nepal.
I know this going to be no easy feat and with your donation and support you really will help give me the confidence and motivation I need to make it through to the very end. So go on and pull out the pennies!! It’ll go a looong way!
