Story
On 24 January 2013, I will be flying out as part of a Palm FM team to the depths of Sweden, just 150km south of the Arctic Circle, where for 7 days I will be living in a snow hole, tepee and a wooden hut built entirely from the forest surrounding us. The aim is to survive and come home with all my fingers and toes in tact. You might ask why anyone wants to live in potential temperatures of -30,am I mad ?...I’ve asked myself this question!
I am pushing myself to the limit to hopefully raise a substantial amount of money for Rowcroft Hospice. Sadly most people now have either lost someone to cancer, know someone suffering with the disease or themselves are fighting to get better. Mine is the first statement. I lost my Uncle to cancer in 2005 and since then have always wanted to give something back to the Hospice that before he passed away had worked with and then finally had to use the services of. Like so many before and so many after him, the hospice is on hand to provide care and support to both patients and their families 365 days a year. They offer hospital transport, bereavement care and support and palliative care to patients staying with them.
This comes at a cost of £16,000 a week and although they receive a Government grant from the NHS, they still need to raise £6million.
Please support me in the task that I have set myself, by sponsoring me to survive. My aim is to raise £2500. All donations will be going to the Rowcroft Hospice (www.rowcrofthospice.org.uk). If I can make the smallest tiny dent in ensuring that this hospice is able to offer one more patient and family the piece of mind they need, then surviving at -30will have been worth it.
