Think about the great experiences you had...making friends,

playing sport, celebrating exams...all of it an integral part of

your life journey. Best time of your life...

40 million disabled children have never had any of those life moments! In fact, “only 2% of disabled children in developing countries receive an education.”* The needs are huge. Laws on inclusive education have been introduced, but disabled children are still kept hidden away, families embarrassed by the stigma, and disabled people remain surrounded by negative perceptions. Through the Roof’s Integr8 programme is desperate to remove these barriers, so this summer I will be joining a team of volunteers to inspire a spirit of inclusion, within communities in Uganda, by revealing the potential of disabled children.

Motivated by our belief that everyone is of equal value, our team, which includes me as a young disabled role model, will equip local teachers and community workers with inclusive ideas and strategies. Hundreds have been “inspired and challenged” on previous trips. One teacher commented that: “I learned to value persons with disability, to see their capabilities, not disabilities.” Additionally, team-members’ lives have been changed. One said: “I did things I didn’t think I could do and developed a closeness to God I haven’t felt in years, if ever.”

My job is to be a positive role model and help the team to train local workers by sharing inclusive ideas and our experiences

Please consider helping me to change lives by:

  • praying for me and the Integr8 team;

  • telling others about the work; and, if you are able to;

  • making a financial contribution to my costs.

The total cost of my place is £1,300 and Through The Roof have asked me to raise £650 as my contribution. I would like to raise much more than this so that the money which would have been spent on me can be used to support their other and equally worthwhile projects.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe – JustGiving will never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to Through The Roof and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Many thanks

    James
