JAYESH's Bupa Great North Run 2014 page

Bupa Great North Run 2014 · 7 September 2014 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In the early hours of July 6th, my mother in law Savita Sitaram had a heart attack and was pronounced dead at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. She was 71 years old.
In the last years of her life she was suffering from Alzheimer's. For anyone who is not familiar with this, Alzheimer's is a form of dementia. Over time it effects the memory. In the last years of Savita's life she could not recognize me and am sure was wondering who this strange man was sitting on the sofa watching watching football or on the laptop. Sometimes she could not remember her grand children's names or even her daughters name (my wife's name) Bina.
On most weekdays before the end of her life she would eat at our home because she was unable to cook at hers. When I got home from work, Savita would be sitting in the kitchen whilst Bina cooked. I would always joke with her that Bina was lazy and watched TV all day whilst I was at work. She saw through that straight away and knew I was joking. Once I came home after a car accident upset and angry that my car had been written off by an uninsured driver and she said that it would be OK, not too worry, everything will work out, just watch.
Savita was a very independent person, I know this because before she was
diagnosed she would offer to contribute money every time we went
out for a meal. She lived on her own right up to the end. She did not want to go into a home. She did not want to end her days in a hospital bed. I am sure that she died in her home before being taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary. That night has been burned into my memory, Holland and Costa Rica were playing in the World Cup and Bina got a phone call.
I am trying to raise money for the Alzheimer's society for the people who are suffering today and for the people who have not been diagnosed. We can find a cure. Alzheimer's society is also there for support. There website is -

This is where your money will be going. Please dig deep and sponsor me.
Bina is also runng the Great North run this year and her page is is below -

I know that Bina is looking at starting up a support group for people effected by Alzheimer's including the family members. She has the backing of Savita's Consultant at the hospital and other people and organisations. If we can help other people who have been effected by Alzheimer's and even the sufferers then maybe, just maybe we can start to smile.
Early signs of Alzheimer's are
forgetting names, days of the week etc etc, as the disease progresses,
the person becomes very limited with what they are able to do.
Please remember that next time you come across someone who is suffering from dementia or they keep forgetting, don’t laugh at them, tell them it’s OK and reassure them, you never know in 10, 20, 30 years it might be you in their shoes.
