Sense International - Trek Santiago de Compostela · 28 September 2009 ·

Our vision is of a world in which people with deafblindness are equal and active members of society. In partnership with our local delivery partners, we help some of the most disadvantaged and marginalised people to Live, Learn and Thrive

Story

From 28th September to 4th October 2009, John Howard-Smith and Jonathan Punter will be joining a group of people in a trek around the third holiest City in the world.  Our collective objective is to raise £50,000 for Sense International.  This small charity helps children in some of the poorest countries handle the dual disabilities of being both deaf and blind.   By providing expert teaching to them and their parents, Sense International’s aim is to ensure the best quality of life, thus enabling them to reach their individual potential and live as independently as possible.

We will trek 120km across Northern Spain for the last part of the 9th Century pilgrimage to the final resting place of St James, the Apostle and moor slayer.  On the way we will visit beautiful Romanesque churches and gothic cathedrals, interspersed by much of the local delicacies (including the excellent regional wines!!).

If you doubt we will make it to the end and receive our “Pilgrim Passport” maybe you would consider sponsoring us to incentivise us further?   Our target is to raise at least £4,000 between us, having covered the costs of the trip ourselves.

Thank you for your support, it means a lot to us both personally, and will mean even more to those who benefit from it.
