The Bone Cancer Research Trust is the leading charity dedicated to fighting primary bone cancer. Our mission is to save lives and improve outcomes for people affected by primary bone cancer through research, information, awareness and support.

Story

In loving memory of Leanne, aged 8 years and 361 precious days. Loved and missed by us all.

Our Story

When our 12 year old daughter Lani was diagnosed with Bone Cancer (Osteosarcoma) in February 2008, it was totally devastating and terrifying. After a year of chemotherapy and major surgery, she is thankfully back at school and enjoying life. We had not previously heard of Osteosarcoma, a bone cancer affecting around 120 young people in Britain each year. Thanks to the brilliance of a dedicated team of Oncologists and surgeons, we are now in a position to look forward to a new life for Lani. It is now time to give back, and help other young people affected by bone cancer.

Why bone cancer research?

There has been no progress in 20 years in the treatment of Bone Cancer (McNally British Journal of Cancer January 2009) which contrasts with the terrific progress nearly doubling survival rates in the three major cancers. That is why the BCRT set up a few years ago by bereaved parents and backed by eminent experts, is focussed on raising funds for research to ensure the kids diagnosed tomorrow have a better chance. The opportunity for improvement is clear.

Running my first marathon in Dublin in October 2009 for such a worthwhile cause is a dream compared to being in hospital in October 2008.

Please send any donation to help Bone Cancer Research, as any donation to help increase the survival rate, will pay back in young lives saved.

Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page. Donating is simple, fast and totally secure. Your money goes direct to the charity and Gift Aid is reclaimed for UK taxpayers. So it cuts costs for the charity and raises more.
