On Friday 19th June a team from Irwin Mitchell's Leeds office will take on the 36 mile trek from the firm's head office in Sheffield back to the Leeds office, to raise funds for Eckersley House, Leeds, which is part of the Sick Children's Trust.
Our son Elliott needed open heart surgery at Leeds General Infirmary where he was born in 2012. We were very thankful to be able to stay in Eckersley House while he was in Intensive Care. The staff, most of whom are volunteers, were very friendly and understanding of our situation. We live over an hour's drive from Leeds and this charity helped us overcome the stress of commuting or having to stay in city centre hotels further away from the ward and at a much higher cost. We are so thankful for the support we received from the Sick Children's Trust and want to repay their generosity so that they can help other families facing similar situations as ourselves.
Eckersley House offers a home from home for families when children need to stay in hospital for treatment. It is open 365 days a year and offers facilities for 23 families per night, including private bedrooms, play rooms for siblings and direct lines to the hospital wards. Eckersley House is funded solely by donations. Annually the staffing and running costs for the House total £129,000.
