Story
Many thanks for my offline donations from Andy Marples, Peter and Brenda Proudlove, Brian and Jane Tibble, Pat Woods, Mary Brown, Steve Johnson, Martin Dodd, Dick Hickton, Jay Ashley and Ady Gotheridge.
Update 14th March Race completed. 2hrs 32 mins 4 secs. The last 26km were the worst.
Thanks to everyone who has donated to help me Help the Heroes.
Update 10th March Training Finished. 4 months and 260 miles. Race on Sunday. Bring it on.
For those who have already donated, please see my training progess below.
Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page to raise funds for Help for Heroes (H4H) www.helpforheroes.org.uk
All I'm after is a quid - my tactic is large turnover, small donation. If everyone gives a quid I will probably raise more than a small number of people giving a tenner each. Of course you can give more and I will be very grateful, I don't want anyone to feel pressured to give large amounts or compete with others who have donated.
On 14th March I am taking part in the World's first Kilomathon, a 26.2 km run (16.3 miles) from Nottingham to Derby via Beeston, Chilwell, Long Eaton and Borrowash. www.kilomathon.co.uk .
You'll probably be aware that I've always done a bit of running but in recent years my distance has been confined to 10km races. The last time I ran anywhere near this distance was a half marathon 22 years ago. I'm hoping your support will motivate me through some miserable winter training with my dodgy arthritic knee. Alison is doing this as well with her mate but they are recent half marathon veterans and may well be ahead of me so I'll be running alone.
I'm doing this for Help for Heroes because I'm tired of seeing young lads and lasses coming back from Afghanistan blinded or with limbs missing. So far £40 million has been raised by this charity in just 28 months and the money goes directly towards treating, rehabilitating and supporting members of HM Armed Forces and their families, providing them with whatever they need including the best in prosthetic technology with no expense spared. Whatever your view is on whether we should have troops there, they are still getting killed or injured every day of the week.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. All you need is a debit or credit card, your donation will come out of your account, job done. If you prefer to pay by paypal there is that option too.
Your details are safe – they don't sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they send your money directly to H4H and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. It’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
I've got you this far, please donate now, thanks.
