Lacock Half Marathon · 27 June 2021

The objective of the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation is to encourage and assist young people to 'climb as high as they can dream', by providing annual scholarships and bursaries for their training and personal development in the pursuit of their ambitions.

Story

As part of my gold DofE I set a goal to complete a half marathon by the end of June. After having done 6 months of training, I have entered the Lacock half marathon and wanted to use the opportunity to raise money for the John Thornton’s Young achievers foundation. John Thornton was an air cadet at Ferndown Sqn, after leaving cadets he joined the Royal Marines and sadly was killed by an IED whilst deployed in Afghanistan. The charity set up in his name supports a range of youth clubs including Dorset & Wilts Wing Air Cadets, Scouts and local schools. I personally have benefited from the charity with them enabling me to take part in the 2019 Nijmegen marches in Holland, an unforgettable experience. Due to COVID a lot of fundraising events this past year were unable to go ahead and I would like to help make up for the lost funds. Any contribution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
