Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As you will all know, I am a bastion of moderation and healthy living. It is for this reason, that I have decided to throw my body and well-being on the line and scale the infamous 3 Peaks of God's own county to support two great charities, Barnardo's and Age UK.
Barnardo's and Age UK provide services to two of the most vulnerable demographic groups in the UK. I have seen first-hand how much difference can be made to both young and elderly people through care and support.
My Mum and Step-Dad opened up their home to young people in need of emergency accommodation and rather than just giving them a place to stay, they provided pastoral support and genuinely looked to enrich the lives of those who came through their door. It's these type of differences that Barnardo's make to thousands of lives every year.
As a family, we were unfortunate enough to lose my Grandmother last Boxing Day. Whilst at the remarkable age of 93, a scrabble wizard extraordinaire (whether through the means of magic or the dark arts we'll never know), she was lucky enough to have an engaging social life and people constantly around her whilst still living independently. She, though, was an exception to the rule. Loneliness is one of the biggest issues facing the elderly and the work of Age UK looks to combat this to improve people's quality of life in their later years by providing companionship and care.
I will be undertaking this mammoth challenge - marathon distance with the equivalent elevation of Ben Nevis - on April 21st with other, equally-folly, colleagues from Santander.
All of your support will be kindly received.
