Story

What are you doing, when and why?

My name is Jackie Cook, my Mum, Marcia, suffers with Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis she was diagnosed in 1992 and to help raise greater awareness of this disease which doesn't get as much publicity as it should I will be using my cake making skills to help raise money for one of the charities that help support those with the disease.

I'll be baking and delivering cakes, cupcakes, scones, shortbread as requested to friends and businesses in the the Sheffield area. I'll be asking for £10 per cake or £5 per batch of scones/cornflake buns. All proceeds going to the charity. So if it is someone's birthday, anniversary etc or 'it's Friday and your at work' whatever the reason and you would like to order a cake just let me know.

How do I donate and order my cake?

You can message me through Facebook or Linked In to place your cake order! E-mail me on jackie@cqmarketingservices.co.uk or as most of you will know me the old fashioned way of ringing or speaking to me :-)

Where can I find out more about Primary Progressive MS?

My Mum has set up her own website with further details of how it has affected her and more information, please take a few minutes to have a look.

Where can I find out more about the Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre (South Yorkshire) Ltd and their work?

The Mulitple Sclerosis Therapy Centre (South Yorkshire) are a self funding, self help Therapy Centre focused on offering people a chance to benefit from a unique blend of non-intrusive, holistic, complementary therapies and practical mutual support mainly for people with MS and other neurological conditions, their families and carers. Established in 1985, we operated from an industrial unit until enough money was raised to buy land and create our purpose built Centre here at Catcliffe. The new Centre was opened in 2001.

We currently have over 200 members and are always open to more.

The Centre is open from 9.00am to 4.00pm, every Tuesday, Wednesday Thursday and Friday.

To give you an idea of how supporting the MS Therapy Centre (South Yorkshire) makes a difference for people living with MS, here are some examples of how we spend your donations...

It costs around £8,650 a month or £106,000 a year just to keep the Centre running, and as we receive no government funding this is raised through donations, grants and a multitude of fundraising initiatives. Having just one full time and two part time members of staff, our members, volunteers and friends are invaluable.

Our aim is to help people to help themselves, especially in keeping as safe and mobile as possible within the confines of their condition. We offer a number of therapies, including Oxygen Therapy, Physiotherapy, Osteopathy, Massage, Reflexology, Aromatherapy and Counselling. We also provide other alternative and beauty therapies. We also have a great supply of biscuits, teas, coffees, cakes, good company, a warm welcome, and more than a few laughs.

The Centre is currently raising funds to have a canopy fitted to the front of the building so that the community service bus and individual can pull in and our MS sufferers can get into the centre without getting wet whilst, for example, getting them into a wheelchair.
