Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. In my career as an Optometrist I have come into contact with the most lovely people of all ages and walks of life, many of whom have severe visual problems. One way I can help is to raise funds for the University of Southampton Gift of Sight appeal.
Having attended the recent lecture which was given by Professor Andrew Lotery I felt so inspired by the passion he has for his work and his determination to find a cure for inherited eye disease that I felt I would like to give something back.
The money raised will assist research into eye diseases such as age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, retinitis pigmentosa, cone dystrophies and more. The Vision Research laboratory is situated in Southampton General Hospital and patients with eye disease are invited to take part by supplying samples and making repeat visits to the clinic. A paper was published in the medical journal The Lancet last year following the successful finding of a gene related to age-related macular degeneration.
