Story

The sudden death of Rachel Dickenson's partner, Dr Jacky Pallas, on 23rd May 2019 whilst they were on holiday has come as a terrible shock to her family, friends and colleagues. Our thoughts and sympathies are with Rachel and those close to her at this difficult time.

Many people have asked how they can show Rachel they care. Instead of flowers she has asked that people, who want to, make a donation to either Water Air or Women's aid, charities both close to Jacky's heart.

Rachel was also happy to share a little about Jacky - a very talented lady.

She had worked at King's College London for two years, joining them from UCL where she was the Director of Research Platforms. During her time at UCL, she also worked as Head of Research and Innovation at the Alan Turing Institute. She did her undergraduate studies and PhD at the University of Glasgow and was a research fellow at the Salk Institute California and at the University of Leeds. Prior to working at UCL she also spent time working in industry.

Since joining King's in August 2017, Jacky made a major contribution to their research capabilities.

She set up the e-Research function for the university, working closely with colleagues in IT and RMID and academics across a wide area of research to both strengthen their infrastructure and governance, as well as developing a great strategy.

More recently, she extended her role taking on responsibility for strategy and business development across all of King's core research platforms. Jacky was a national leader in this area and her advice was widely sought by universities, major funders such as the medical research council and industry.

However we will remember her as Rachel's friend and partner.
