Story
Earlier this year we sadly had to give birth to our baby boy at 20 weeks + 4 days. Jacob was our first baby and although it was a huge shock when we found out that we were expecting once we had got our heads round it we couldn't wait to be parents. But unfortunately Jacob had grown a tumour whilst in my tummy, the consultants were shocked to see this as they had said they'd never seen something like this before & that we had to understand that this type if tumour was very very rare. The consultants said that there was an extremely low chance he would have survived the pregnancy full term, if he had then there was no chance he would have survived for long after birth and there was nothing they would have been able to do for him. This was the most heartbreaking thing for Mark & I to hear when we thought we were just going be having a routine scan and finding out the sex of our baby. A week after I had given birth to Jacob I had a tattoo on my left forearm in his memory done by Wesley Lambe at the Ink Doctors tattoo studio in Portsmouth, it has his name, date and his foot & hand print. This made me feel closer to Jacob. I put this on Facebook and had all the usual 'likes' and lovely comments. Mark had his tattoo done a few days ago (5th April 2013) again by Wesley Lambe who put this photo onto Facebook, the next thing we knew the photo had received over 100k likes and over 100 comments. The next thing was our friends telling us they had seen other people sharing the photo and still receiving likes & comments. One page - Miscarriage, stillborn & child loss - shared the photo, and had so much feedback from people on their page that they started a trend of people sending in their pictures of tattoos they had done in memory of children they had lost. Another page which had shared it - Secret Women's Business - had over 400k likes and over 9k comments, they contacted me and said the page had actually reached 8 million people. Mark & I have completely amazed by this and all the lovely messages we had received from people all over the world (USA, Australia and many other places), so many people had been touched by the tattoo and could relate, we even have had interest from the local newspaper. This was when we decided we would set up this page and see if all the people that had liked or commented would donate anything as little as £1 and get this amazing charity a huge donation so they can continue with their brilliant work of helping parents & families through the most heartbreaking time they could ever have.
We have now started to organise a charity event with some local bands playing and a raffle/auction, this will be happening in July at the RMA Tavern, so if you or you think you know somebody who would like to donate a prize for our raffle please contact me on: michellenorman@hotmail.co.uk
