HAVING completed the 26 mile marathon of a walk through the hilly, uneven terrain of the Surrey Hills, I'm feeling pretty pleased with myself!

    I was determined, with my friend, Shelagh Edwards, to complete the course and when asked at 20 miles "Are you going to stop now?" We both retorted, "Absolutely NOT!"  We were very much aware of your support and if we hadn't finished I'd have felt very guilty collecting the sponsorship money from you!

    We had a fabulous day - the weather was perfect, the scenery amazing, and thanks to you, I've raised quite a lot of money!

..... I'm going to be walking 26 miles along, up and down the Surrey Hills to raise money for some disaffected and disadvantaged people of Surrey. It's known as an affluent county, but there is still a great need and Surrey Care Trust helps these folk very successfully.

So, I'm going for the big challenge of walking 26 miles - a marathon! My good friend Shelagh has agreed to do it with me and we started our training by doing 8 miles last Sunday - ok, it was on the flat and it was a fine day - but that's nearly a third of the way so we're feeling smug ... at the moment!

However, I somehow think that 26 miles in one day won't be such a "walk in the park" - and it's eleven years since I trekked in China - more of a walk in the dark by the time we get back to Guildford! I'm going to take a torch just in case!
