Story
For the last 7 years I've been a trustee for Leyton Orient Trust, a community charity which gives disadvantaged kids in East London access to sports, training and education opportunities they wouldn't otherwise get. Sadly, I am stepping down this summer... but they asked me to do one final thing for them - join their team cycling from Leyton Orient's own football ground to the home of Ajax in Amsterdam.
I couldn't say no. They're quite pushy like that.
What made it easy to say yes was when I learnt that the money raised would be going to Prostate Cancer UK, a charity I know (from people "in the know" in the charity sector) does particularly superb work in raising awareness of a deadly and yet very treatable cancer. Having lost some much loved family and friends to cancer over the last few years, as most people have, I wanted to support it.
So, after giving my generous friends and family a 3 year break from me doing fundraising events, this June I am following up my 2009 bike ride from London to Paris with one from London to Amsterdam. We will be cycling 150 miles in just two intense days, going from Leyton Orient to the stadium of Ajax in Amsterdam - so there's going to be lots of training for the hills of Kent (less so for the flats of Holland). It will be more intense than London to Paris, if mercifully briefer.
I've paid £300 so far for event costs like ferry and accommodation - so any money you donate will go towards the charity and not so i can have a nice adventure.
If you can afford it, please donate, I have to raise £1000 so I really need your support. And please spread the word!
And a huge thank you to the people who sponsored me on my previous page. They are:
