Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My grandmother, Cecilia, was perhaps the most extraodrinary woman I have ever met. She was more like a mother to me. She was a woman who never gave up a fight and held on as long as she could in the most difficult times.
Born in 1919, she married my grandfather and had 4 children incuding my father. At the age of 49, she lost my grandfather to cancer and was left alone to raise 4 kids in Colombia. An incredibly difficult thing to do for a woman at the time.
Nonetheless, they all came forward as excellent individuals and she was the best grandmother we could have all hoped for. 11 grandchildren who loved her deeply and miss her every day, even today, 4 years after her death.
At the age of 84, she suffered a stroke that left her in difficult conditions, but she managed to walk again and her mind was still sharp. Over time, she had a series of other strokes which slowly started to take a toll on her. Finally, in March of 2009 she suffered one final stroke which left her in a hospital bed for 9 days before God took her with him.
My goal is to raise awareness and fun raiser for those who suffer strokes today. I believe we can help these people with our motivation, our love and care. It is a huge battle to fight when recovering from a stroke but it is possible.
In memory of my beloved grandmother, I want to see those who struggle today to get better like my grandmother fought so hard to do.
I miss you abuelita!
