Great North Swim 2009 · 12 September 2009 ·

Pump Aid works with rural communities in sub-Saharan Africa to deliver improved water and sanitation services. We believe that safe protected water points, adequate sanitation and better hygiene improve health and education outcomes and socio-economic opportunities.

Story

Dear friends and family!

After countless hours of dedicated training (think Rocky Balboa montage sequence) in the not so exotic surroundings of a gravel pit near Heathrow....next Sunday I am taking part in the Great North Swim.

It's a one mile open water swim in Lake Windermere (yes that's the big pretty one in Cumbria).

I would be delighted if you'd like to help me raise some money for Pump Aid which is a fantastic charity that provides community run, easily maintained pumps and sanitation to rural African communities. Essentially you'd be helping to supply the gift of clean water.

More info here:

http://www.pumpaid.org/

I'm trying to raise £500 which will pay for all the materials needed and the know how to build an Elephant Pump providing 250 people 40 litres a day each of clean drinking water.

Please give what you can! (It's safe, fast and secure through this site and won't lead to unsolicited emails). If you're a UK tax-payer please Gift Aid your donation too.

Many thanks and wish me luck!
