In August 2011 a team of 12 from the Richmond Group will be enduring 100 km of uphill walking, Climates ranging from Marlaria-ridden 35CTropical Jungles to -20C Glaciers, dealing with 100mph winds, risking altitude sickness and some really nasty toilet conditions to conqueor Africa's highest peak and the world's highest free standing Mountain.
The challenge is for a great cause, in total the team will be raising £32,000 to build a new set of classrooms and other facilities at Kombe Primary School in Kenya. To make sure the money goes where it should we will be visiting the school which is already under construction directly after the climb.
Whilst 3 of us leading the team did this last year 9 of the team have no idea what to expect. As well as being largely inexperienced the team covers a wide range of fitness levels. 8 or our 12 climbers are smokers, all of whom have unfortunately vowed to continue smoking right up until summit day.
Most teams that take on this challenge have a 20% failure rate. We are GUARANTEEING any donors that 100% of us will be reaching the top, whatever the cost.
Of the £32,000 needed I have already donated £10,000 myself to get the build off the ground. On top of that I am paying the cost of the climb and the visit and the cost of the Build Africa team that is accompanying us on the school visit, a cost of over £30,000.
£100% of everything you donate will go straight to the build of the School.
