RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour search and rescue service all around the UK and Ireland, while lifeguards keep a careful watch on the UK’s busiest beaches. RNLI lifesaving and drowning prevention depend on supporter fundraising and the generous donations that you and others give.

Story

TOTALLY SELF-FUNDED - all money raised is going to the RNLI

Welcome to Barcelona Bangers
Barcelona Bangers is a holiday with a difference! Imagine driving from Calais, down through central France and on to historical Lyon, then a thrilling drive over the French Alps and on to Nice on the beautiful French Riviera, then on the final day we drive down the coast road and on to Barcelona on the Costa Dorada, sound like fun? Then come and do it in a car worth less than £200...

Allan & I saw this last year and thought it would be fun, it was.... So much so we are doing it again and this time hoping to raise money for the RNLI.   No personal connection here or anything just watched a documentry on it and thought that they do such a brave and dangerous job out there whilst also fund-raising to continue this service.   I have been fortunate enough to chat to some of them and seriously have complete admiration for what they do.  You may not have been personally affected by something concerning this charity but it not to say you or your family won't need them in the future and to this reason is why we want your support to make sure they are there to help.

I have a blogsite that will update in the build up to this trip and possibly during if I have access to a laptop, the site is http://homerbartsroadtrip.blogspot.com/   check it out if you want, a work in progress.   Forgot to mention last year we raised over £2,000 for Cash 4 Kids doing this rally, oh and we won it as well :-)   If you want an idea of the madness of the trip last years completed blog is http://comeonthecoo.blogspot.com/

I have some info and stats from the RNLI for you to read, please give any amount large or small, Thanks.

Every day an average of 22 people are rescued by the RNLI’s lifeboat crews around the coasts of the UK and Republic of Ireland. This service is only made possible because of the personal courage and commitment of our brave volunteers, their high quality equipment and their regular specialist training. Rescue doesn’t come cheap and is made possible by their dedication, training and commitment.  People from 45 communities around Scotland volunteer to crew RNLI lifeboats and last year (2008) they rescued 762 people. Over a third of these rescues took place in the dark and Scottish RNLI crews spent a total of 1,642 hours at sea going to the aid of people in need of rescue. As an independent charity we rely on public donations to ensure rescues are possible. Your involvement in your running event and fundraising helps this vital service to continue. Your support is very much appreciated.
