Story

WELCOME TO MY JUST GIVING LONDON MARATHON 2013PAGE!

I have entered the 2013 Virgin London Marathon to run and raise money on behalf of the Royal Air Force Association (RAFA).

I am currently serving in the Royal Air Force (RAF) and have been for the last 9 and half years. During this time I have served at various locations in the UK and overseas. During my time overseas I was away from my wife and 2 children for a total of 8 months.

There are many RAF personnel who have to go through time spent away from their family and loved ones. Some are lucky enough to come home and return to normality but for others they either return home injured or not at all.

RAFA is a membership organisation and registered charity that provides welfare support to the RAF Family. Receiving NO government contributions, our work is completely funded by the generosity of our members and through vital donations from our supporters in the general public and from businesses.

The RAF Family includes all serving and ex-serving personnel and their dependants. To be eligible for welfare support, for both themselves and those who depend upon them, service personnel need to have served a minimum of one day in the RAF.

The Association exists in the recognition that RAF personnel and their immediate families dedicate their lives to their country, and to ensure that such a sacrifice does not result in suffering, poverty or loneliness.

Whether it’s an injured airman fighting to get back on his feet, a young child missing their parent away on overseas operations, or a World War II veteran needing a shoulder to lean on, we are here to help all generations of RAF Service personnel and their families.

For more information on the RAFA please follow the link: http://www.rafa.org.uk/What-we-do

RAFA have been kind enough to sponsor my entry into the marathon but a condition of this is that I raise £1,700 to help their fantastic charitable work.

I understand that £1,700 may seem a lot of money to raise but if 170 of my friends and family sponsor me a minimum of just 38.5p per mile then that's the funds raised.

So if you've ever served, are still serving had friends or family serving in the RAF or just want to support a great charity then please let me know if you can help by sponsoring me.

Thanks for taking the time to read this post and I'll be updating this page with information, pictures and videos of my horrible training progress including a 1/2 marathon round Dec/ Jan..

Through JustGiving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. JustGiving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.
