Story

On April 6th 2013 Sarah Groves was tragically murdered on a houseboat in Kashmir. The devastation and grief caused by this inexplicable event has been indescribable. Hundreds, if not thousands of people have been affected emotionally and some are receiving counselling as a direct result.

Due to Sarah's insatiable love of life however, together with her desire to make a change in the world, and her determination to help as many people as she could, the Sarah Groves Foundation has been set up in Guernsey as a Charitable Trust. It will focus on Sarah's inspirations and aspirations, which came from art, children, adventure, and fitness. This fund will continue Sarah's legacy, which is all about love, helping others, and achieving ones dreams. To read more about the Foundation and to see where the money will be spent, please visit www.sarahgrovesfoundation.org .

Under the category of “fitness”, an annual 600 mile bike ride between St Malo – Paris – St Malo will be supported by the Foundation in order to raise funds to support its overall aims.

The 2014 Sarah Groves Foundation Bike Ride will take place in May. It will last for 6 days and will comprise 50 amazing like-minded individuals cycling to “Sarah’s Bridge” in Paris before returning to St Malo. This will be undertaken with full support facilities throughout.

I am a provisional member of the 2014 team and am extremely proud to be so; however, I need to raise a minimum of £1,750 in sponsorship money for me to actually take part.

Participants are going to put themselves through this incredible challenge in order to raise as much money as possible for The Sarah Groves Foundation. We are not an elite group of cyclists, far from it, but we are as a collective incredibly motivated and together will ride from Guernsey to Paris and back. We as a team are going to do something never attempted from these shores before, but we all have an incredible motivation to make this challenge become a reality and for ourselves to live a life less ordinary, just like Sarah.

You can support my own personal efforts to reach my target by making a donation via this JustGiving page. No donation will be considered too small and, of course, none will be considered too large and it is incredibly easy to do! You may remain anonymous and you can hide the actual amount you donate – that’s entirely your choice. You can also donate in pounds, dollars or euros.

If you too would like to get involved as a cyclist or believe you may have valuable skills as part of the support team for of this event, please register your interest by e-mailing sarahgrovesfoundationbikeride@gmail.com .
