Story
My name is Anne-Marie Krumins, I am 35 and I was diagnosed with cancer late in 2008.
When I saw the consultant I found out it had spread from the uterus to my lungs- my care was described as palliative, and chemotherapy was offered to prolong my time. As you can imagine, it was a very tricky time for me, my husband, our families and friends. I accepted chemotherapy treatment, I was told it had a 30% chance of shrinking the tumours and that if it worked it would probably only slightly reduce the size, the treatment made me severely anaemic and neutropenic (immune system unable to fight off any infections).
During this time my husband and I researched cancer and alternative therapies and I made radical changes to my lifestyle as a result of this... never was I offered dietary advice from my consultant or nurses. I came across the Penny Brohn charity and sent off for a free information pack- when it arrived it contained useful of information and dietary advice.
I am happy to say that during my last consultants appointment all the small tumours in my lungs have gone, the 2 remaining are more than likely scar tissue ( I have another scan booked to confirm this), the tumours in my uterus have shrunk considerably- one going from a 9cm mass to 6mm- these can be removed during surgery. My consltant is now viewing my case as curative. I am positive that my lifestyle change has had a huge impact on my fight against cancer.
The Penny Brohn Charity helps people in my situation cope and informs them of many important ways in which they can help themselves in the fight against cancer.
My friend James has decided to run The EDF Birmingham Half Marathon and asked me to choose a charity to support. Please support James by donating money for the Penny Brohn charity.
