This May I shall break the habit of almost a decade and actually run somewhere (which despite being similar to walking, only faster, is actually very painful for the athletically challenged). The reason for this is not only to be able to see my toes again but mainly to do something for a worthy cause. So I shall be running the Bupa 10km run on Sunday 27th May this year to raise as much money as possible for "The Royal Star & Garter Homes", a charity which, since 1916, has been trying to ensure that ex-Service men and women of any age, and the widow(er)s, spouses and civil partners are able to lead independent and active lifestyles. They provide nursing and support as well as running two live in care homes, involve residents and beneficiaries in the local communities, and importantly help them to maintain their links to the military that has been their lives for many years. I recommend seeing the website

Any sponsorship no matter how small would be greatly appreciated. They are not one of the larger charities that will be fielding runners so your contributions will make a bigger difference to them.

10km is not a particularly long way for most people but having considered the escalators at tube stations my only exercise for several years, I think it is a personal challenge that will hopefully be worthy of your support for this excellent charity.

Thanks for the support, and give me a shout if you would like any further information.
