CURE (UK) · 23 August 2009

CURE works to improve the lives of children with treatable disabilities through specialised surgical and compassionate care. Through our eight paediatric teaching hospitals in underserved countries, we provide free corrective care, as well as training for local healthcare workers to do the same.

Story

Dear All,

At present, I am working on a voluntary basis in CURE hospital, Blantyre Malawi. It is a 66-bed teaching hospital that specialises in treating orthopaedic needs of the young and accepts referrals from clinics nation-wide. The facility was opened in 2002 and serves children with physical disabilities regardless of their ethnic background, religious affiliation or ability to pay. In excess of 2000 operations are performed each year at the hospital with over 300 outpatients reviewed every month.

The institution is not financed by the government and the running costs are met by aid agencies and kind donations. A new theatre and physiotherapy department are being built to improve the services available and we are raising money to meet the substantial costs involved.

I will be running the Victoria Falls half-marathon in Zimbabwe (interesting place to stretch one's legs!!) and would very much appreciate you sponsering me to get ludicrously sweaty next sunday, 23rd August and raise as much money as I can to help the building projects outlined above.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Thankyou very much.
