My story
WHO?
An unlikely bunch of London lads who want to give something back and help out disadvantaged kids.
WHAT?
As passionate skiers we are taking on a 48hr skiing challenge. The minimum target is set at 150km vertical, but with the top team managing 210kms last year we are determined (weather permitting) to set a new record for 48hrs. That's skiing for 3 hours on Thursday evening; from first lift until last lift on Saturday with only 30 minutes lunch break; a 2-3 hour snow shoe hike at mid-station from 8-11; and then get up on Saturday and repeat the 8.30 until 5. No hot chocolate or gluhwein stops permitted and where possible no turning either!
WHY?
Snow-Camp is an innovative youth charity that uses a unique combination of skiing, snowboarding and life-skills programmes to support inner-city young people. Through snowsports and life-skills, Snow-Camp programmes enable young people to grow in confidence and self esteem, develop as individuals and make positive choices for their lives. Snow-Camp programmes also enable young people to reflect on the key issues impacting their day to day lives, and help them develop new skills to support their futures. Snow-Camp has grown steadily from 2003 and now works with at least 400 young people each year across 12 London Boroughs. As well as offering the opportunity to learn to ski or snowboard, Snow-Camp includes a youth focused Life-skills course designed to enable young people to reflect on the key issues that impact their lives.
