I've been looking to raise funds for charity through a cycling event for some time. Many charity events require a 'minimum' donation and the participants get a 'holiday' as part of their fund raising effort. I didn't feel comfortable with this approach but the Marrakech Atlas Etape isn't one of these. I'll be flying in at my own expense, just before the event and returning the next day.

As well as raising much needed funding it's a huge personal challenge. The total ride distance of 140km incorporates a climb of the 'OUKA Monster' which starts at an altitude of 495m and tops out at 2645m - higher than any of the peaks in the Tour De France.

This event is supporting Education For All's work in Morocco and all funds raised will go to help to provide a college education for women in the country.
