At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

A huge thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!

Here is why I am trying to raise GBP4000.00 for the Alzheimer's Society:

While studying Neuroscience for my Bachelors degree, Alzheimer’s was a disease only confined to the lecture halls. The degenerating cholinergic system, neurofibrillary tangles and beta amyloids were mere hypotheses I had read about in the textbooks. It was not until my grandfather was diagnosed with the disease that I realized the impact Alzheimer’s had on families. I chose to fundraise for the Alzheimer’s Society to raise awareness of the disease amongst my friends and to show my family that there is a wider network of help, not only for the sufferers but also for their care-givers/ family members. I have decided to take this climb to rid myself of the naive thinking that I need not need to worry about neurodegenerative diseases until later in life. The harsh reality is that Alzheimer’s affect whole families and with the help of the Alzheimer’s Society I want to challenge myself to pass this message on.
