My story
The Lily Foundation raises funding for research into Mitochondrial Disease – awareness, easier diagnosis and maybe one day a cure!
Mitochondrial disease is a cruel/life-limiting/incurable condition, which my neice Ivy and many other children in the UK suffer with. Mitochondrial disease is difficulty to diagnose. Ivy had to go under the knife for a muscle biopsy just to test for a suspected condition. Although the results confirmed our worst fears, we are one of the luckier families with a diagnosis and answers to our questions. Many undiagnosed conditions, even cot deaths, maybe attributed to Mitochondrial Disease.
A beautiful little girl called Lily sadly died in 2007 when she was just eight months. Lily’s family have inspired us - with their energy and drive, setting up The Lily Foundation in Lily’s memory - helping other families like ours, raising money for equipment and research into Mitochondrial conditions!
