Update!!

As I write this, it is exactly 2 weeks until the four of us set off from our home towns to travel to Manchester.  The last few weeks have seen ups and downs for all of us but we are determined to get to that finish line and complete this challenge.  Jamie's legacy is a very special cause and it is an honour to be fundraising in Jamie's name.

I set up this page because I wanted lots of people to hear Jamie's story - perhaps people that I have never met (friends of friends etc) but for me, I feel very privileged to know the three ladies that I am running with.  Each of them has a special story to tell and I love them all for the fantastic people that they are!

This week my beautiful friend Anna was called by the people who are organising the Great Manchester Run.  They want to interview Anna on tv on the big day.  Anna is a brave lady who inspires many people with her determination to achieve.

Thank you to everyone who has shared this page - please continue to do so.

Lots of love,

Karen xxxx

Jamie Inglis was a beautiful, bright 7 year old who courageously battled with childhood cancer neuroblastoma.

Jamie was first diagnosed with cancer at the age of 3.  Neuroblastoma is very aggressive and by its nature it can be complex to treat.  Jamie's family were supported by an army of well wishers who funded a charity appeal to get Jamie to the USA in 2010 for specialist treatment.  Jamie beat neuroblastoma!

Whilst in remission, Jamie and his family moved to York and Jamie started school.  This is where I first met Jamie as he was my daughter's class mate.

In March 2012, Jamie became unwell which was initially thought to be due to a chest infection. After suffering acute back pain for a week and following four visits to hospital, Jamie suddenly lost the use of his legs and bladder. An MRI scan immediately identified a 2.5cm tumour on his spine that had affected his bladder function and ability to walk. Jamie was rushed into emergency surgery the same afternoon, and doctors successfully removed the tumour. The neuroblastoma had come back.

Jamie spent over a week recovering and had to have physiotherapy to learn how to walk again.  As there are no relapse protocols in the UK, Jamie's parents John and Vicky had to rely on the support of the public once again as an army of fundraisers rallied round to pay for Jamie to go to Germany for a Haploidentical Stem Cell transplant.

The charity that coordinated Jamie's Appeal was the Neuroblastoma Children's Cancer Alliance.  This remarkable charity is currently supporting a number of appeals and has provided funds for children that are undergoing treatment both in Germany and elsewhere.

Just before Christmas, Jamie suffered severe complications due to a virus.  Jamie's treatment meant that he had a weakened immune system and was unable to continue fighting.  Jamie passed away peacefully in the arms of his loving parents on 15th January 2013.

I am proud to have been a member of Jamie's Army.  With my daughters I created @SmilesForJamie on twitter and through my fundraising efforts I have got to know Nikki and others that work for this inspirational charity.  At Jamie's 7th birthday party I met Natalie Davy who I know worked incredibly hard to fundraise for Jamie's Appeal.

On Sunday 26th May 2013, Natalie and I will be joined by my friends Lisa Dorman and Anna Loperfido to run the Manchester 10K in memory of Jamie.  All the funds that we raise will go towards Jamie's legacy fund that will be used to support other neuroblastoma warriors, raise awareness of this disease and fund research.

In Jamie's short life he inspired so many people.  Please help me to keep Jamie's spirit alive.

Thanks for all of your support,

Much love, Karen x
