My story

UPDATE 9th October - I am very pleased to be able to announce that I completed the race in 13:22:00, knocking 1 hour 43 off my IMNZ time, and far exceeding my 14 hour target. Fortunately, I had a really fast, flat bike course to help me.... many thanks to all of you for your support and donations!!

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On Sunday 4th October, I will be attempting to complete Challenge Barcelona, my 2nd Ironman distance triathlon, (that's 2.4mile Swim, 112mile Cycle, and 26.2 mile Run), this time at Calella de Mar, which is not far from Barcelona. http://www.challenge-barcelona.com/home/info_general.php?language=en

I am hoping to improve on my Inronman New Zealand 2008 time of 15:05, and would be over the moon if I could go sub-14 hours!!

This time, my charity of choice is the Earthwatch Institute, who are an international environmental charity which is committed to conserving the diversity and integrity of life on earth to meet the needs of current and future generations. This charity is very close to my heart, as I have recently returned from one of their climate change research expeditions this year, (http://www.earthwatch.org/europe/exped/kershaw_mackenzie.html), which enabled me to experience first hand a) the impact climate change is having on ecosystems at the Arctic's Edge, and b) the crucial role Earthwatch plays in providing volunteers and funding for environmental projects worldwide.

Photos and captions summarising my experience are here: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2035771&id=1232014337&l=9bc7f87326. (N.B.: No facebook account required to view).

So, please could I ask you to donate whatever you can afford to help Earthwatch with their vital worldwide conservation projects.
