20 years ago I was diagnosed with kidney cancer at the age of 29, just a few months before I was due to marry David.
No one can prepare you or imagine how it feels to be told this news at such an early age. I undertook a radical nephrectomy which thankfully was successful and here I am - 20 years later - large as life!
Its not always an easy thing to live with - I am grateful to be alive - try and enjoy life to the full- but cancer is as much a mental process of acceptance as a physical one - By in large - I think I've done brilliantely!
I have had loads of support through the years - my lovely husband David and I am so lucky to have been able to have had Andrew , my fantastic son. Friends and family. thank you for being there for me.
I wanted to do something to celebrate this anniversary - given my aged knees have put paid to my running - then walking it is - and lots of my friends are going to walk with me - 10 miles on Sunday 2nd October 2011. Many many thanks for those I have persuaded to come with me - I know its a sign of a great friend who wholeheartedly accepts your latest mad idea and boy I have had a few!!
