Running a marathon has been on my bucket list for a while (and to be honest I thought it would be staying there for a while longer as something that I talked about but never actually got around to doing!)  I am not a natural distance runner and will be feeling every step of the 26.2 miles.   It will not be fast and it will not be pretty!

I am raising money for the Windmill fundraising campaign which is raising money for the Salford Royal Neurosurgery department to support people with spinal tumours and the Christie hospital to support people with breast cancer.

A couple of years ago a friend of mine, Lynne Potts visited a doctor because of some niggling back pain and was diagnosed with breast cancer.  This is her story:

"In October 2016, I received the unexpected and devastating news that I had secondary breast cancer which had spread to my spine and there was a real risk that I would lose my ability to walk. At that moment life did not seem worth living and I could not see a future.

Fourteen months on thanks to the most amazing support from my family, friends and colleagues and having been fortunate enough to respond to world class medical and surgical care delivered here in Greater Manchester, I am back leading a normal and full life.

This has all been possible thanks to the Neurosurgery department at Salford Royal Hospital and the work of the breast care specialists at the Christie Hospital.  Please support their vital work so they can give more people the continued gift of active life"

The way that Lynne has dealt with her illness has been an inspiration to everyone that knows her. If you could spare a few pounds towards the fundraising cause it would be greatly appreciated.
