I am supporting Open Arms International by joining a 2 week medical mission trip to Kenya 2-16th July 2011. Open Arms is a charity our local church have been supporting this last year and friends of mine visited this summer and reported back on the amazing work being done there. Open Arms own a 50 acre farm in the hills of Kenya near Eldoret with the overall aim that the project will house, educate and eventually self sustain about 60 orphaned or street children and provide valuable employment for local people. Each year there are 2 medical trips to Open Arms and the volunteers help with the project on the farm in addition to providing the medical mission that is open to all the local people.
What will I be doing?? The 2 week trip consists of about 20 people including medics and support helpers. I am assured there will be plenty to do as I am clearly not a medic! Support work includes bagging up vitamins/medication, teaching children, helping with the feeding programme, prayer ministry, and playing with the children.
The target of £1000 goes directly to Open Arms as a donation helping pay for the medical mission - supporters are responsible for paying their own return air fare to Kenya.
