I have secondary bone cancer, and a year ago I was lucky enough to be invited to participate in an Odyssey course. Odyssey is a little known charity but its contribution in helping people overcome a cancer diagnosis is enormous. Odyssey takes patients on a five day outdoor adventure, aimed at combating the psychological and emotional devastation caused by their illness.

I benefited so much from the course, and would now like to help Odyssey raise much needed funds to enable them to continue their excellent work.

This summer (31/08/13 to 07/09/13) I aim to cycle from Cardiff Castle in the south, to Caernarfon Castle in the north of Wales - a distance of 217 miles, following Sustrans Route 8 - the National Cycle Route of Wales. I will stay in bunkhouses or camp each night, and will be supported by the Odyssey team. The first £550 of sponsorship money is required by Odyssey to go towards the cost of actually doing the trip, and then I have my own costs on top of this.

I have cycled ever since childhood but have never done anything as challenging as this ride. Staying in the saddle for 7 days might stretch  my endurance as my cancer is in my pelvis...however, I believe so much in this charity that I wish to give something back to it for helping me. Everyone who is able to donate to Odyssey can do so, safe in the knowledge that their sponsorship will have a profound and positive effect on  future participants of Odyssey courses. I can vouch for this from personal experience...and so too can my precious family and friends.
