We’re an independent charity working to improve lives of people with cancer and other serious conditions. We do this through medical research and by providing the best patient care using high quality scanners. Last year we scanned 18,000 patients giving them and their families hope for the future.

Story

<p><span style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: 19px;">&nbsp;</span></span></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><span style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: 19px;"> <p><span><span style="font-family: &quot;Calibri&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: Tahoma; color: black;">On 30th July 2011, Jane and Pete are attempting the Yorskhire Three Peaks Challenge in aid of The Paul Strickland Scanner Centre. The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge takes in the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, usually in this order. These peaks form part of the Pennine range, and encircle the head of the valley of the River Ribble, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The </span></span><span><span style="font-family: &quot;Calibri&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: Tahoma; color: #333333;">aim is to complete a gruelling 37.5 km (23.3 mi) to 42 km (26.1 mi) circuit of all three peaks with nearly 1,600 m (5,249 ft) of ascent and descent within 12 hours</span></span>.<span><span style="font-family: &quot;Calibri&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: Tahoma; color: black;"> We opted for this over the national three peaks challenge (Ben Nevis, Snowdon and Scafell Pike) because we thought that looked too easy.</span></span><span style="font-family: &quot;Calibri&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial; color: black;"></span></p> <p><span><span style="font-family: &quot;Calibri&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: Tahoma; color: black;">We are very much prepared for the challenge: having lived in Yorkshire means that we are accustomed to big gradients and turbulent weather, and extensive research (all via google) has assured us that this task is do-able for the able walker.</span></span><span style="font-family: &quot;Calibri&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: Tahoma; color: black;"><br /> <span>The Paul Strickland Scanner Centre is a very worthwhile cause which provides Computerised Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Positron Emission Tomography (PET/CT) to the National Health Service and Private Healthcare sector in the United Kingdom. In 2005 Jane&rsquo;s dad managed to raise &pound;33,111.62 for the charity&nbsp;</span><br /> <span>(&nbsp;<a style="cursor: pointer;" href="http://www.justgiving.com/mileswhitehead" target="_blank"><span style="color: #3b5998; text-decoration: none; text-underline: none;">http://www.justgiving.com/mileswhitehead</span></a>&nbsp;).&nbsp;</span><br /> <span>&pound;33,111.62 is perhaps a bit ambitious, but it&rsquo;s important to aim high!</span><br /> <br /> </span><span style="font-family: &quot;Calibri&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial; color: black;">Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving &ndash; they&rsquo;ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they&rsquo;ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it&rsquo;s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.</span><span style="font-family: &quot;Calibri&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: Tahoma; color: black;"><br /> <br /> <span>Thank you!!!</span><br /> <br /> <span>Love from Jane and Pete xxx</span></span><span style="font-family: &quot;Calibri&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial; color: black;"></span></p> </span></span></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>
