Jane Backs Bob's Bike with Teenagers in Mind · 31 October 2009

We are dedicated to improving the quality of life and chances of survival for young cancer patients aged 13-24. We fund and build specialist units in NHS hospitals and provide dedicated staff, bringing young people together so they can be treated by teenage cancer experts in the best place for them.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am undertaking this mad challenge as one of the ways I am going to celebrate my 50th birthday.  I have never been on Bob's bike before but am going to do a tour of 50 roads throughout Lothians, Fife and Borders on Saturday 31 October. Details of this “epic” journey are below - feel free to cheer me en route!  I am starting at 8am from East Kinleith and the journey will probably take about 2 and a half hours - all sponsors are most welcome to welcome me home at 1030am (or between then and 11am!).

Harlaw Road, Kirkgate, A70, Curriehill Road, A71, Dalmahoy Road, Addiston Farm Road, Roddinglaw Road,  Gogarstone Road,  A8,  Lochend Road,  B8000, B907,  B924,  A904,  B9109,  B903,  A993, A706,  A803,  M9, M876,  A876, A955,  A994,  A823,  M90,   A90,  A902,  A903,  A901,  A199,  B6415, New Street,  Mountjoy Terrace,  Eskside West,  A6124,  B6454,  A1,  A198,  B1377,  B1347,  Bearford Road,   Whittinghame Drive,  A6093,  B6368,  B6371,  A68,   A7,  A720,   A702,  B701,   Newmills Road,  Curriehill Castle Drive,  cherrytree Avenue, Bavelaw Road

The funds raised here will go towards the appeal for a new Teenage Cancer Trust unit at Western General Hospital in Edinburgh. Work on the new Teenage Cancer Trust unit is expected to start in 2010 and will be for cancer patients aged 16 – 24.

TCT  raised the money locally  for a Unit at the Sick Kids hospital for 13 -16 year olds which is now open.  Fantastic.

Help us do the same for the 16-24year olds.  Cancer is horrible at any age but for a teenager or young adult the timing seems particularly cruel. They also get some of the most aggressive cancers. .

Teenage Cancer Trust builds units in NHS hospitals which improve the quality of life and chances of survival for young people with cancer. But as they receive no government funding, they rely on voluntary donations from people like you and me.

For more information about TCT and how you can get involved, call TCT's Scottish Ambassador, Lynne McNicoll on 07901 555 352
