Running is my 'thing' and I decided last year that I wanted to do something positive to support Dad as we anticipated he would be cared for by St Richard's Hospice at some point in the future. I've never run a marathon before but have felt it is something I ought to do, as clearly I'm known as a 'runner' and a marathon is a big deal to 'tick off' a list of any life achievements. Dad had a few reservations about me taking on too much in terms of the training required but I had his blessing!

As it happens the care at St Richard's commenced sooner than we had hoped and as you all know at the beginning of December 2014, not just Dad, but the whole family were cared for by the staff at this amazing Hospice over the course of 5 days. I am so pleased I have my place in the London Marathon to run for the Hospice and hopefully raise a good chunk of cash to ensure other families are able to be looked after and treated with the compassion and respect that we were and most importantly, Dad was. In the Hospice he personally thanked the staff who had been looking after him in the last few days and I know he would be delighted if we are now able to repay them with something tangible.

Those of you who know me well will understand that I'm not just intending to get around the marathon course - I want to run a decent time. I've commenced an 18 week programme and am dedicated to completing the course in under 3 hours which I'm hoping is a realistic goal, albeit extremely tough!

Therefore, if you wish to make your donation contingent upon or linked to me achieving a specific time then please do so. I will provide you with updates on how the training is going so you can track my progress!

Please be as generous as you can in supporting my fund-raising, however, all amounts, small or large will be very much appreciated.

Thank you
