I am back! having cycled the 'La Route des Grandes Alpes ' from Geneva to Nice. An amazing trip. I found myself in the company of various groups of fit young men who had slick bikes/back-up vehicles/no luggage....and were cheerfully wishing me 'bon courage' as they whizzed past at twice my speed!!....Some of the mountain passes were still closed by snow but there were plenty left ...mostly only just opened, including 'La Bonnette' ...'the highest road in Europe at over 2,800m. My route crossed most of the major Tour De France cols and went through the lovely mountains I know well in the winter for snow sports.In summer they are alive with vibrant flowers and butterflies. There were some incredible gorges and rock formations too.
