Fortalice is a Bolton based organisation providing front line services including a 22 flat refuge, training and group work for women, families, children and young people who are, or have been, affected by domestic abuse and violence. We supported approx 2,200 individuals across Bolton last year

Story

I have been a keen cyclist for over 35 years and enjoyed both competitive cycling and touring. I have participated in time trials, 24 hour endurance events, rode across Europe and also from Lands End to John O Groats. I'm no stranger to a challenge!

So for 2014 I wanted to set myself a new challenge....I am planning to walk the pilgrims route, taking me 500 miles through France and Spain to Santiago de Compostela. I will be walking with my sister-in-law (a lifelong runner) but I am hoping that we will make friends along the way. We will be sleeping in hostels along the route and eating in local eateries.

Fortalice is a charity that I have been supporting for years in helping with their Christmas gift wrapping service. They do wonderful work helping and supporting women and children in Bolton who are victims of Domestic Violence. I am funding the trip myself so every penny you can spare will help them to help others. All the money raised will be used for setting up a counselling service for young children who have suffered trauma through the domestic abuse that they have witnessed or suffered.

Why not enlist the help of friends, sports clubs, schools, offices etc and get together for your own challenge and help me to raise money for Fortalice. As a community we can really make a difference to these women and children who need our help and support.
