I'm running the half marathon for a number of reasons. The first is that I found a lump recently and went through the hideous 'what if' scenarios in my head. It really made me think about how I would face leaving my own life, and all those I love, if the worse came to the worst. Thankfully I only got a brief look through that window but in a matter of two weeks three friends were seriously affected by cancer. I'm running to say 'I love you' to them.

I also want to help with prevention, we need to know more about preventing this disease.

I am involved because I work with The World Cancer Research Fund as a consultant. They are a fabulous team and it's a great way to support their efforts. I love the beauty of relationships, people being special to me, and me being special to them. Putting love into action seemed like an all round great idea. I've roped in my husband and a friend too so I can share the pain, I mean love!!!

The run is the day before my birthday. I will be 48. It will be nice to be fit enough to run this on that birthday. People, who know me well, know I ran a marathon 10 years ago. It resulted in some serious health issues for a long time. I had to fight my way through them. This challenge isn't going to be 'a walk in the park'. For a start it's a run, but more than that it's something I never thought I could, or would be able to do again. It is going to require lots of training, strengthening and commitment.

Thank you for reading my reasons for running. Please give whatever you can. Every penny counts, and consider coming on the day for birthday drinks, for rehydration reasons of course!!
