Jannah's mission to make babies smile
Safiya Virji is raising money for A World Without Barriers
Story
Anyone who knows Jannah knows she loves babies!! Nothing makes her happier than to make sure her dolls (all called 'baby') are safe, protected, warm and loved. If even a drop of water falls on their clothes, Jannah will change them to make sure they aren't cold or uncomfortable. And she listens out carefully in the middle of the night, because she says often they get hungry and she will need to give them a bottle of milk.
Every time I see Jannah with her dolls, I think of all the beautiful babies that we saw in Iraq. I think about how Jannah would feel if she knew they didn't have warm clothes or blankets for winter, they don't often have milk - as formula is difficult to get hold of when you live in a landfill site far from civilisation and often their mothers aren't producing milk due to poor nutrition. Nappies are a luxury that they just cant afford, and toys are just out of the question.
My 3 year old daughter would undoubtedly be unable to sleep at night if she witnessed what I did on my recent trip to Iraq to serve the destitute, the sick and the orphans of Najaf. The first thing my daughter would say to me had she come would be "Mummy, we have to help the babies".
So for the sake of my daughter, my own soul and for the sake of the babies who are suffering....we introduce project Baby Joy! Together our aim is to change the lives of babies who don't have even the basic necessities. Some are ill and need medical attention, others are cold and hungry and need warmth and a decent meal. Whatever they need, we are here to help them. We wont stop until our babies are as content as Jannah's dreams are for every baby to be.
