In 2007 Eilish, the sister of one of my best friends was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. If she would have only known more about the symptoms of this horrible illness, she would have had a chance of survival. Instead, it took her and her doctor too long to find out about it.
From the moment she was diagnosed, Eilish decided to devote the rest of her life on making as many women as possible, aware of the early symptomes of Ovarian Cancer:- Pelvic Pain - or pain down one side Bloating -
- Swollen tummy (most look pregnant!!)
- Difficulty eating - feeling full quickly
- Changes to urinary/bowel habits, lower back pain and extreme fatigue.
The sad facts are that 1 in 48 women will be diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in their lifetime. With a mortality rate of 70%, unfortunately 2 out of 3 will find out too late. Up to 90% could be COMPLETELY CURED if only they found out early enough!
From November 6th until November 12th, I will be walking 100k across the Sahara Desert in Morocco’s Atlas Mountains, to raise funds for ‘Target Ovarian Cancer’ and to thereby raise awareness of the early symptomes. Target Ovarian Cancer is dedicated to achieving a long and good life for every woman with ovarian cancer. Its mission is to accelerate progress to beat ovarian cancer by promoting best practice in diagnosis, by treatment and care and by raising money for high quality research.I feel that my participation in the Sahara Trek is the least I can do, to try and support this important cause and to raise funds together with a group of devoted individuals.
