Story

On Sunday 1st August 2010, I successfully completed the UK IRONMAN race in 14 hours and 44 minutes.

The race went about as well as I could possibly have hoped for and here's how I fared:

- 2.5 miles Swim - Completed in 2 hours (went well despite on onset of cramp for the last 250 metres)

- 112 mile bike ride - Completed in 8 hours (involved 3 treks up a huge hill that felt like it would never end!)

- 26 mile run - Completed in a respectable 4 hours 30 minutes

(There was also 14 minutes of changing time between events in my 14 hours and 44 minutes)

I'd like to thank everyone for their support and encouragement over the last few months. Thank you also to everybody that has kindly made a donation to Cancer Research UK, we've raised around £4k which is a fantastic contribution so thank you to everyone!

Update:

The Japan Ironman 2010 event has been cancelled due to an outbreak of foot and mouth disease!

I will now be competing in the UK Ironman event which takes place on the 1st August in Bolton. Unfortunately my 'shark avoidance' training will no longer be required as the swim will now take place in a lake. The distances will all be the same, but the maximum time to complete the event is now 17 hours (phew!)

Hello!

Everyone knows I like a challenge. Well this is the big one. It doesn't get bigger than this.

- 2.5 mile open water swim (I'll try to avoid sharks and sinking)

- 112 mile bike ride (yes 112 miles - roughly the distance from London to Birmingham)

- 26 mile run (otherwise known as a marathon - even though I vowed never again)

All done consecutively in under 15 hours...

On June 13th 2010 I will be competing in a triathlon event known as 'The Ironman' on Fukue Island, Nagasaki, Japan.

Am I mad? Fish.

Am I taking this seriously? Yes - From 6.30am on the 1st January 2010 the new regime kicked in. 5 and a half months of no alcohol and hardcore training is now underway - I'm running and cycling everyday and hitting the pool every week in an effort to remember how to swim!

Why am I doing this? All of your kind donations will go directly to Cancer Research UK. A charity whose work needs no explanation. Please join me by dontaing money to support this cause.

Bring it on.
