Story
On Wednesday 12th May 2010 my brother Jason Crockett passed away after an 18 month battle with cancer. He was just 29. The resolute and brave manner he displayed throughout his struggle serves as an example to those he leaves behind to never lose hope in the face of adversity.
In his memory, I am raising money for Cancer Research UK by committing to a series of physical challenges, including the following so far:
2010: ascent of the Jungfrau (4158m), one of the highest mountain peaks in Switzerland.
2011: the Jungfrau Marathon (climbing 1823 m), in 5 hours 21 minutes.
September 2012: the Henley Half Triathlon, covering 1.9km swim, 52 mile cycle, 13.1mile run, in 5 hours, 34 mins.
October 2012: The Henley Half Marathon, in 1 hour 58 minutes. An event close to my heart as when I ran this race in 2008 Jason had just been diagnosed with cancer, and was at the finish line cheering me on. I entered that race with only a day's notice wanting to show Jason that strength of mind and willpower go a long way (I was very unfit at the time but finished in 1 hour 59 minutes).
October 2015: The Henley Half Marathon, after a couple of years "off games" due to knee injury, in 1 hour 51 minutes.
January 2016: The Inferno, the oldest and longest amateur downhill ski race in the world, in Switzerland. The length of the course is 14.9 km with a drop in altitude of 2770 m. Finished in 9 minutes and 24 seconds, awarded a silver medal place.
January 2017: Once again raced in the Inferno, having not skied since last year's race, finishing in 9 minutes 21 seconds, and awarded a silver medal.
As many as one in two people will develop some form of cancer during their lifetime. More must be done to help fund research into this terrible disease. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for your support.
