Story
As most of you know, I am bit of a keeno when it comes to sport. Whether it’s playing, watching or endless debating about it with friends and family. Since recently turning the ripe old age of 31 with a waistline and chin that’s feeling the impact of the slowing metabolism, I decided it’s time to use my love for sport to help someone else (whilst turning me back into the spring chicken I once was…)
I wanted to pursue a sport that was out of the norm for me so after months of deliberating I came to a decision to give cycling a try in an attempt to become the Indian version of Bradley Wiggins (although I don't think I’ll be able to pull off the mod look). My first journey will be to complete the London to Brighton NIGHT ride (60 miles) on 13/14th July.
After getting all the gear and safely negotiating a few laps around the garden I’ve now progressed onto public roads without the use of stabilizers and set myself a target of 5 hours to complete the ride. With only 6 weeks to physically and mentally train for this event, it is going to be a huge task, and that’s without thinking about the dreaded 'Green Monster' aka Ditchling Beacon, one of the steepest hills in the South Downs with an 814ft ascent to its summit.
Whilst this is a huge personal challenge for me, the main reason for competing is to raise money for a very worthy cause. My wife and I hugely admire the work of the Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Trust charity and would like to support them in their efforts to find a cure for CF, a life shortening genetic lung condition; the people that suffer from CF have a constant battle with their everyday lives. Donations to the charity not only help to ensure CF sufferers and families receive the care and support they need but also towards funding curative gene therapy.
All donations will be greatly appreciated however big or small and will definitely spur me on to the finish line.
And if you feel the task ahead of me is not worthy of sponsorship, I have also given up the beers and curries until I complete the ride, which as you can imagine, I’m already struggling with.
Thank you for taking the time to look at my page, I will be providing updates on how I get on with my training.
